Medicine for Iraq / Medico por Irak
In December 2003, Fernando Suarez del Solar traveled to Iraq (Baghdad & Fallujah) to see the destruction for his very own eyes and to visit the place where Jesus died. There he took some soil and later planted a tree in a park Escondido, CA as a symbol of peace in memory of Jesuswhere it continues to grow.
The following year, Guerrero Azteca Peace Project and Code Pink formed a delegation of members from various human rights organizations as well as military family members who lost a loved in the Iraq and/or 9-11 attacks. They took medical equipment and medicines to Jordan where the delegation met with Iraqi doctors who later delivered the medicine and supplies to children’s hospitals inside Iraq.
Thank you to all who donated funds, clothing, letters, peace pinwheels (gifts to Iraqi children) and all the medicine and medical equipment to make this important journey possible. The people in Iraq & Jordan that we met with send their most sincere gratitude. The message of peace has been delivered and most importantly, lives have been saved.
|“During my visit to Iraq in December of 2003, I witnessed the death of many children. At the central hospital in Baghdad, the doctors informed me that they were in a desperate situation because of the shortage of medications.
There, I witnessed the death of a seven-month-old infant caused by simple diarrhea that could have been easily controlled with the proper medicine. At that moment I made a promise to all the Iraqi mothers who were present in the hospital that as soon as possible I would somehow send medical aid to their children.
In December of 2004, together with many other organizations, we were able to raise more than $600,000 in medical aid and ship medicines to the innocent victims of the Iraq occupation. Today, we are working with Iraqi doctors and international organizations to implement a permanent program called Rescue Iraqi Children.”
